TWO LAWS PART 2

1. When did the law of God began and when will it end?
Read: Psalms 111:7-8

7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. 8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. (111:7-8)

NOTE: The law of God - all His commandments - stands fast for ever and ever. It is eternal. It has no beginning and end.

2. What are these commandments that 'stand fast for ever and ever'?
Read: Deuteronomy 4:13

And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them on two tables of stone. (4:13)

NOTE: These eternal commandments are the Ten Commandments.

3. What are the principles of the Ten Commandments?
Read: Matthew 22:36-40

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (22:36-40)

NOTE: The first principle is 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' And the second is 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'

4. What is the penalty of breaking the Ten Commandments?
Read: Romans 6:23 â€‹

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (6:23)

NOTE: The penalty for breaking the Ten Commandments is death. It is not being burned alive in hell fire for ever and ever.

5. Why did mankind not die after breaking the Ten Commandments?
Read: Galatians 3:13  â€‹

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree(3:13)

NOTE: Because Jesus Christ died in our place (Revelation 13:8 'the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world').

6. What did God do after mankind sinned?
Read: Galatians 3:19

Wherefore then serves the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. (3:19)

NOTE: God added a new law 'because of transgression.'
In this passage, the law cannot refer to the Ten Commandments because the law was added 'because of transgressions,' which indicates that it was added 'after transgression.' The Ten Commandments existed before transgressions. Without the Ten Commandments, there could have been no transgressions (Romans 4:15 'Because the law works wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression') because there would have been no law to be transgressed.

7. How long would this new law last?
Read: Galatians 3:19

Wherefore then serves the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. (3:19)

NOTE: This new would last only 'till the seed should come to whom the promise was made.'

8. Who was this seed?
Read: Galatians 3:16

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He said not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ. (3:16)

NOTE: The seed was Jesus Christ.
The new law would last only 'till Jesus Christ should come.'

9. When would this new law be ended?
Read: Colossians 2:14
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross. (2:14)

Ephesians 2:15
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of two one new man, so making peace. (2:15)

NOTE: The new law would be ended when Jesus Christ - His flesh, His body - was crucified on the cross.

In summary, this new law was instituted after the fall and would be ended at the cross. After the fall until the cross, there were two laws running in parallel: The Ten Commandments and this new law. But before the fall and after the cross, only the Ten Commandments are in force.
