second COMING events

1. What will Jesus do in His second coming?
Read: Daniel 12:1-2
1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Read: John 5:28,29
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.

NOTE: First, He will deliver His people from the persecution of the wicked during the great time of trouble.
Second, He will raise the dead. Some to eternal life, and some to eternal contempt. Some to resurrection of life, and some to resurrection of damnation.

2. Who will be resurrected first during Jesus' second coming?
Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:16
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Read: Matthew 24:30-31
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Read: Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

NOTE: The righteous will be resurrected first during the second coming. The wicked will not be resurrected.

3.a. What will happen to the righteous during Jesus' second coming?
Read: Philippians 3:20-21
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from where also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like to his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things to himself.

Read: 1 Corinthians 15:51-53
51 Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

NOTE: Their bodies will be changed to be like Jesus' body. From corruptible or perishable bodies, to incorruptible or imperishable bodies. From mortal bodies, to immortal bodies.

Jesus will not change our characters during His second coming. Character transformation must be done during our lifetime.

3.b. What will happen to the righteous during Jesus' second coming?
Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

NOTE: The righteous who are alive and who have just been resurrected will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air to be with Him forever.

Jesus' holy feet will not touch the filthy earth during His second coming.

4. What will the righteous do after Jesus' second coming?
Read: Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

NOTE: They will reign with Jesus a thousand years.

Read: Revelation 20:4
And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark on their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

NOTE: They will 'live' [the righteous dead will be resurrected], 'reign with Christ' ['sitting on the thrones'], and judge ['judgment will be given to them'] for a thousand years.

5. Whom will the righteous judge?
Read: 1 Corinthians 6:2-3
2 Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know you not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

Read: Matthew 19:28
And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, That you which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

NOTE: The righteous will judge the world [the wicked] and the angels [Satan and demons].

6. What will happen to the wicked alive during Jesus' second coming?
Read: Revelation 19:11-21
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he does judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a clothing dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him on white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the wine press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he has on his clothing and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the middle of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together to the supper of the great God; 18 That you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat on the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Read: 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

NOTE: They will be destroyed.
These two passages describe the second coming of Jesus, not the third coming, because Jesus is coming with his armies of heavens [mighty angels], not with his saints.

7. What will happen to the earth during Jesus' second coming?
Read: Jeremiah 4:20-27
20 …Destruction on destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled…
23 I beheld the earth, and, see, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
25 I beheld, and, see, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.
27 For thus has the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

NOTE: It will be destroyed, without form, and void. There will be no man. The whole earth will be desolate. Yet, it will not be the end.

This destruction is caused by the seven last plagues of Revelation 16, particularly the seventh plague.

Read: Revelation 16:17-21
17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightning; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were on the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. 19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And there fell on men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

8. What will happen to Satan during Jesus' second coming?
Read: Revelation 20:1-3
1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

NOTE: He will be left alone ['bound', 'shut up', 'sealed'] on the desolate earth with no one whom he could deceive.

9. Revelation 20:3 says that an angel 'cast him [Satan] into the bottomless pit'. What does 'the bottomless pit' mean?
Read: Jeremiah 4:23
23 I beheld the earth, and, see, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

Read: Genesis 1:1-2
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters.

NOTE: In the original language, the word 'bottomless pit' is the same as the word 'deep' in Genesis 1:2, which is 'abyss'. The condition of the earth in the beginning of creation is similar to the one during Jesus' second coming, namely 'without form, and void' and 'had no light' or 'dark'. And so, the word 'bottomless pit' refers to the earth desolate. Satan is cast onto the earth desolate.

10. When will the wicked be resurrected?
Read: Revelation 20:4-5
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark on their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

NOTE: The wicked will be resurrected at the end of the 1000 years.

In summary, during Jesus' second coming:
1. The righteous dead will be resurrected,
2. The righteous' bodies will be changed to be like Jesus',
3. The righteous will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air,
4. The wicked will be destroyed,
5. The earth will be desolate,
6. Satan will be bound on the desolate earth for 1,000 years,
7. The righteous will reign and judge the wicked for 1,000 years.
