EARTH BEAST
1. What did John see in Revelation 13:1?
Read: Revelation 13:1
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a __________ rise up out of the __________ , having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

2. What did this beast represent?
Read: LESSON 06: SEA BEAST

NOTE: LESSON 05: LITTLE HORN explains that the Little Horn represents the Vatican or the Roman Catholic Church based on the 9 characteristics described in Daniel 7. As we compare the 4 characteristics of the beast rising up out of the sea (read Revelation 13:1,5,6,7) and of the little horn, we see that they are one and the same, both representing the Vatican or the Roman Catholic Church.

3. How long was power given unto him to continue?
Read: Revelation 13:5

And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue __________ .

NOTE: The Roman Catholic Church was given power 'to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations' (Revelation 13:7) for forty two months, or 42 months X 30 days = 1260 prophetic days, or 1260 literal years.
The legally recognized supremacy of the Roman Christian headed by the Pope began in 538 AD, when Emperor Justinian, through the Edict of Justinian in 533 AD, elevated the Bishop of Rome to the position of head of all Churches. Pope, the title that was applied to all bishops and other senior clergy of Roman Christian, became reserved to the Bishop of Rome.
Before 538 AD, Arianism and Roman Christian, both claiming to be Christian but lacking many of the essentials of the religion of Christ, had been contending for the supremacy. But with the Arian Goths, so far as being dominant was concerned, that hope perished in 538 AD by the crushing defeat of the last Goths, the Eastern Goths (Ostrogoths), before Rome in 538 AD and Roman Christian entered upon a new era in its career that led to a spiritual dominance unknown to the papal system before that time.
Adding 1260 years to 538 AD brings us to 1798, which is the year Pope Pius VI was deposed when the French General Berthier, under Napoleon, led him into captivity. Napoleon apparently tried to crush the Papacy, and about 18 months later the Pope died in exile in Valence, France. This act ended papal power in terms of enforcing papal decrees.

4. What happened at the end of forty and two months or in 1798?
Read: Revelation 13:12,14; Revelation 13:10

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly __________ was healed.
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the __________ by a __________ , and did live.
10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the __________ . Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

NOTE: In 1798, the end of forty and two months, the power of Roman Catholic Church 'to make war with the saints, and to overcome them' (Revelation 13:7) was taken when Napolean stripped the political-military power of the Roman Catholic Church.
The loss of political-military power is called 'deadly wound' in Revelation 13:12,14. Revelation 13:14 explained how this wound was inflicted: 'by a sword.' Sword in the bible symbolizes political-military power (Romans 13:1-4), which refers to the French political-military power under Napoleon. Revelation 13:10, which foretold that the Roman Catholic Church that led many into captivity should herself go into captivity, was fulfilled when Pope Pius VI was made captive by the French army in 1798. The same passage, which foretold that the Roman Catholic Church that murdered many by the sword of several European political-military powers, which included France, should herself be killed with the same sword, was fulfilled when the political-military power of the Roman Catholic Church fell by the French army in 1798.
