KEY TO OBEDIENCE
1. Can we keep God's commandments by our own will & strength?
Read: John 15:5
I am the vine, you are the branches: He that stays in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may you also do good, that are accustomed to do evil

2. Can we keep God's commandments?
Read: Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible
​
Read: Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me
​
Read: 2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

3. How can we keep God's commandments?
Read: Psalm 37:5
Commit your way to the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass

Read: Proverbs 23:26
My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways
​

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Read: Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

NOTE: Commit our way to God, trust in Him, give Him our heart, observe His ways, submit ourselves to Him, ask Him, seek Him, knock Him.

4. What should we ask God to keep His commandments?
Read: Luke 11:13
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
​
Read: Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them
​
NOTE: Ask God the Holy Spirit to cause us to keep His commandments.
​

Read: 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
​
Read: Proverbs 28:13
He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.
​
NOTE: Confess and forsake our sins. Believe God's promise to be merciful & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
​

Read: Mark 9:24
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help you my unbelief.
​
Read: Luke 17:5
And the apostles said to the Lord, Increase our faith.
​
Read: James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given him.
​
NOTE: If we cannot believe God's promises - lacking faith - ask God to help us believe them.
​

5. What must we do to keep God's commandments?
Read: Philippians 2:12-13
12 Why, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
​
NOTE: After we commit our way to God, trust in Him, give Him our heart, submit ourselves to Him, ask Him for the Holy Spirit, confess and forsake our sins, God will work in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Then, we must work out our own salvation with fear and trembling - keep God's commandments.
​

Read: Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.
​
Read: Colossians 3:23
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men.
​
NOTE: We must work out our own salvation with our might & heartily.
​

6. What must we do when the devil tempts us to sin?
Read: James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
​
NOTE: We must submit ourselves to God first, then resist the devil with our might.
​
​
7. What must we do when we are discouraged because of our past failure?
Read: Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brothers, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

8. What does John advise?
Read: 1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I to you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
​
Read: 1 John 1:9

NOTE: By the grace of God, we must strive not to sin by being careful to do all His commandments. But if we sin, we must confess and forsake our sins, and believe that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

9. Why do we have to study the Word of God?
Read: Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
​
Read: Rome 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
​
NOTE: We are saved by grace through faith. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
​
​
Read: 1 Peter 1:5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
​
Read: Rome 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
​
NOTE: We are protected through faith. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
​

Read: 2 Timothy 3:15-16
15 And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
​
NOTE: The Word of God makes us wise to salvation through faith. The Word of God is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness.
​

Read: Psalm 119:11
Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
​
NOTE: The Word of God protects us from sinning.
​
